In contrast, if you attended a gym session that you dread, you would likely struggle to endure an hour of it.

When we are in control of our tasks and the goals we pursue, we often experience a surge in energy as our focus and passion for the outcome intensify. This suggests that motivation in our work can boost energy levels and enhance our performance.

Motivation fosters the drive to achieve objectives, such as shedding pounds or landing a new position, and when one ultimately succeeds, there is a sense of joy connected to the outcome. While success serves as the foundation of motivation, ultimately, it is the pursuit of happiness that fuels this motivation. Therefore, to ensure both your joy and levels of motivation are on the rise, challenge yourself with small tasks and learn to take pleasure in gradual progress.

When one member of a team exhibits motivation, it has the potential to influence their peers, leading to a greater commitment and enthusiasm among the group. This idea is equally relevant in our personal lives. Recall moments spent with someone who radiated positivity; did their upbeat attitude inspire you and enhance your productivity? If the answer is yes, consider how your own positive energy could uplift others and encourage them to feel more driven. Thus, try to create a reward system for yourself to maintain your motivation. This does not need to be extravagant; even minor rewards, like a coffee from your favorite café or indulging in a beloved candy bar, can suffice.

Motivation fosters personal growth. As you set personal targets and successfully achieve them, you’ll feel increasingly encouraged to push your limits further and strive for even more significant accomplishments. Conversely, when you find yourself lacking motivation, engagement often diminishes. This is a typical experience. Why would someone want to partake in activities or engage with others when there is no drive or stimulation? However, once motivation reenters your life, whether due to a task or a desire to break free from apathy, endless possibilities await you. You will feel a sense of empowerment, inspiring you to explore new experiences, experiment with innovative ideas, and possibly even tackle ambitious goals that may once have seemed unattainable.

My seven approaches to keep you inspired in life and enthusiastic about your endeavors:

1. Engage with your strengths rather than your weaknesses.

Staying motivated is improbable if you continuously concentrate on your flaws. You should build teams that can utilize your strengths while making up for your weaknesses.

2. Discover your life's purpose.

I find immense fulfillment in collaborating with individuals, teams, and organizations to help them reach their fullest potential. I can repeat this repeatedly, even on weekends. When your activities resonate with your purpose, motivation naturally follows.

3. Set small, achievable goals regularly.

This idea contrasts with the common advice to establish lofty goals. While significant goals can benefit those who are highly driven, most individuals struggle to realize them. Many aim for ambitious goals but end up accomplishing nothing. How can this be motivating? Why expose yourself to failure?

Instead, create attainable goals, and once you achieve them, gradually raise the challenge. This establishes a cycle of success that fosters motivation.

4. Focus your energy on getting better.

Very successful people do not aim for perfection; they focus on continuous improvement.

If you tend to overthink and end up taking no action at all, it may be worthwhile to evaluate whether this mindset is beneficial for you. Motivated and successful individuals consistently take decisive steps toward becoming better. They recognize that by regularly taking action, progress occurs and achievements are a natural result.

5. Engage in activities that can enhance your motivation.

However, this occurs only when you have an understanding of what sustains your motivation. For me, this might involve watching uplifting films, reading empowering articles or books, having conversations with individuals I admire, and more. You can also consider a moment when you felt exceptionally motivated, reflect on what was specifically different during that period, and think about how you might recreate similar circumstances.

6. Consider what was successful.

You are likely to feel motivated when you recognize your strengths. These successes can often be applied to different facets of your life and work. By analyzing what actions led to positive outcomes and identifying what set that period apart, You’ll discover valuable lessons that can help you achieve more in the future. 

7. Monitor your development regularly.

In my initiative, Small Steps To Big Changes, we instruct our participants to consistently assess their progress. This approach is highly encouraging as you will begin to recognize improvements and areas for further development. Rate your current status on a scale from 1 to 10 regarding the aspect you wish to improve. Reflect on what changes are necessary to advance one level within the next month. After a month has passed, reassess your position on the scale, and over time, you will start to see your growth and understand what actions are required to reach the next level.

To strengthen your “why,” consider setting an alarm each morning to prompt you to take a minute or two to envision what your success would resemble.
